Microsoft eScience Workshop 2012-Register now!

Date: 8th October 2012

Location: Chicago, IL, USA

Microsoft eScience Workshop 2012 “eScience in Action” October 8–9, 2012 | Chicago, Illinois, United States Register now! The ninth annual Microsoft eScience Workshop will be held October 8 and 9 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago in conjunction with the IEEE International Conference on eScience 2012. Discussions and presentations will once again relate to the theme of eScience in Action. Each year, the workshop provides a forum for scientists and researchers to share their experiences and expertise with the academic and research communities. The eScience Workshop fosters collaboration, facilitates the sharing of software components and techniques, and defines rich, open scientific challenges. Microsoft has been actively pursuing research in eScience for more than 10 years; the book, The Fourth Paradigm: Data-Intensive Scientific Discovery, provides a background on its many areas of focus.

We’ve put together an amazing program including keynotes, panel discussions, and individual talks on the following topics: Open Data, General Informatics, Data Management, Citizen Science, Machine Assisted Thought, Data Scientists, Data Curation, e Journal, Data Process, and Data Visualization.

We are excited to announce the recipient of this year’s Jim Gray eScience Award at the banquet on Tuesday evening from 6:00-9:00pm at the Hyatt. This will provide an opportunity to network with not only the Microsoft eScience Workshop attendees, but those attending other workshops offered that week at the 8th IEEE International Conference on eScience 2012. You will also be able to network during our combined lunches provided on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

Exclusive to the Microsoft eScience Workshop guests, we are hosting a special reception a few minutes down the road at the Adler Planetarium on Monday from 6:30-8:30pm immediately following the demo session. Transportation will also be provided. A more detailed agenda is forthcoming in the next week: Microsoft eScience Workshop 2012.

We have a lot to cover in two days so please join us for our opening keynote at 8:30am on Monday (continental breakfast and badge pickup begin at 7:30am).

We’re looking forward to seeing you in Chicago next month!!!

Thank you,

Dan Fay and Kristin Tolle Program Chairs Microsoft eScience Workshop 2012
