Biography | Catriona MacCallum is the Advocacy Director at PLOS, and a member of the Boards of OASPA (the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association), OpenAire and the Royal Society (Publishing). She was a professional editor for 18 years, working initially for Elsevier as Editor of Trends in Ecology & Evolution then Managing Editor. She joined PLOS in July 2003 as one of the launch editors of PLOS Biology and was involved in the planning stages of PLOS ONE and the PLOS Community Journals. While a Senior Editor on PLOS Biology, she also acted as a Consulting Editor on PLOS ONE. She took a sabbatical from PLOS in 2007-2008 as an invited Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Studies in Berlin. She has a Ph.D. from Edinburgh University on the evolutionary ecology and genetics of speciation. She has spoken and written extensively about the transformation of scholarly publishing and is a keen advocate of open science and the reform of scholarly communication. She was part of the independent panel reviewing the implementation of RCUK’s policy on Open Access and is currently a member of the UUK Open Access Efficiencies Working Group and RCUK’s Open Access Practitioner Group. Catriona leaves PLOS in June 2017 to join Hindawi in July as their Director of Open Science. |
