Announcing the #FORCE2019 organising committees

(Posted on behalf of Euan Adie and myself)

Dear Colleagues –

As co-chairs for this year’s FORCE11 meeting, set for Edinburgh from October 15 to 17, we’re so pleased to announce our 2019 Program and Local Organising Committees.

Together, we’re putting together another special, cross-sector, cross-disciplinary gathering that we hope will inspire new partnerships and new solutions for advancing research communication. Please plan to join us.

As with previous FORCE11 meetings, your ideas are very welcome so please do share your thoughts on how to make the program truly shine. More details below.

The Local Organising Committee, chaired by Fiona Wright (University of Edinburgh), is taking care of the conference host sites (none other than the historic Murrayfield Rugby Stadium and the Hilton Grosvenor hotel), accommodation, on-the-ground support, and helping participants get a taste of Edinburgh.

We’ve learned from past chairs (John Chodacki in particular) that one of the special things about the FORCE11 meetings is that each one is heavily inspired by the local host. Given Edinburgh’s rich tradition in challenging scholarly communication norms (and the richness of Scottish traditions!), FORCE2019 promises to be a poignant experience. We offer thanks in advance to our local team.

The Program Committee, also chaired by Euan, will tap into the latest issues and trends, and help shape the event with your input. They’ll recruit session proposals and poster submissions, review them all, and ultimately create a program that is as engaging and thought-provoking as it is informative.

They’ll also recruit keynote speakers and are looking for your feedback now. Please contact us (via this form) to recommend speakers whom you know to be:

  • Working on the future of scholarly communication
  • Would be provocative and really get us thinking
  • Working on a more inclusive research landscape
  • An awesome speaker

The deadline for suggestions is April 21.

The program committee for #FORCE2019 includes Euan Adie (Altmetric, Chair and FORCE11 Board member), Helen Blanchett (Jisc), George Bray (Robert Gordon University), John Chodacki, California Digital Library and FORCE11 Board), Lisa Haddow (University of Stirling), Amye Kenall (SpringerNature and FORCE11 Board),  Valerie McCutcheon (University of Glasgow), Karthik Ram (Berkeley Institute for Data Science), Robin Rice (University of Edinburgh), Martijn Roelandse (Independent), Thordis Sveinsdottir (University of Edinburgh), Hannah Whaley (University of Dundee).

The local organising committee includes, from the University of Edinburgh: Fiona Wright (Chair), Greer Brook Singh, Alexandra Delipalta, Victoria Lindstrom, Nik Tahirah Nik Hussin, Eva Nueno Cobas, Dominic Tate, and Pauline Ward.

We’ll also soon be indebted to the fundraising and communication committees.

We thank these folks in advance for volunteering for a fantastic effort that brings us all together.

#FORCE2019 will be held October 16 and 17, 2019 at the BT Murrayfield Rugby Stadium, with pre-conference workshops at the Hilton Grosvenor Hotel on October 15.

Details on the program and how to register will be made available later this year. To be kept up-to-date, join us on Slack, sign up to receive email alerts, or follow @force11rescomm on Twitter.

There are plenty of opportunities to sponsor and gain exposure among thought-leaders in research communication. Learn more.

We’ll look forward to seeing you there!

Best wishes, from Your Conference Co-chairs:
Euan Adie & Jennifer McLennan
