Staying in touch: FORCE11 updates, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic

[This page was updated with new info from April 14, 2020]

We wish you the very best in these uncertain times. The FORCE11 community reaches around the world, and we know many of our colleagues are on the front lines of this pandemic. Please stay safe, and follow the guidance of your local health authorities.

In consideration of the recent guidance on public health, FORCE11 has been evaluating how our activities will need to shift this year so that we can still provide support to the global scholarly communication community, stay safe, and take time to recover once the crisis recedes.

Our decisions so far are:

  • For the FORCE11 Scholarly Communication Institute (FSCI) scheduled for Los Angeles in August 2020: We will no longer host the 2020 in-person edition of our week-long institute. FSCI coordinators and instructors are actively exploring interactive online events and educational activities to be held during 2020. Please consult the FSCI2020 website for further details as these plans emerge.

  • For the FORCE11 annual conference, planned for Donostia San Sebastián, Spain in October 2020: [Update] April 14: 2020: FORCE2020 has been postponed. Please plan to join us in October 2021.  To be kept up-to-date as plans emerge, please join the FORCE11 community (there is no fee).

  • To help the community stay in touch and continue to collaborate, we encourage you to consider FORCE11 Working Groups, which we know are powerful channels for collaboration around the world. To learn more and apply to start a FORCE11 Working Group, visit our website

Staying in touch with one another over the coming months could be an important and valuable strategy for maintaining individual health, and keeping the FORCE11 community connected and vibrant. All are encouraged to connect with us and with one another today on the FORCE11 community Slack, on LinkedIn, and/or on Twitter. We would be pleased to see you there.

Sincerely,

John Chodacki, FORCE11 Board Co-chair
Violeta Ilik, FORCE11 Board Co-chair
Daniel O’Donnell, FSCI Steering Committee Chair
