On the reproducibility of science

Name: 2013 Beyond the PDF2

The literature is where we put our collective knowledge about science, however, authors do not uniquely reference research resources enough to enable research reproducibility. To understand the problem magnitude, we evaluated the “identifiability” of resources in the biomedical literature. We created a corpus of journal articles based on a diversity of impact factors, publisher, and reporting guidelines and attempted to identify resources such as model organisms and antibodies. We will present our results and recommendations to journal editors, publishers, reviewers, and authors on how to approach this significant problem in science today from both a technical and cultural perspective.
