Bringing global research infrastructure into local practice

Group leaders

Summary

This Working Group will explore the gap between global scholarly infrastructure and local research practices, with a focus on how persistent identifiers and related infrastructures are understood, adopted, and used across diverse regional, institutional, and disciplinary contexts.

Drawing on the perspectives of community-facing practitioners (such as librarians, editors, and research support staff), the group will examine challenges in translating global standards and best practices into locally meaningful workflows. Topics may include uneven capacity, contextual constraints, incentives for adoption, and the role of intermediaries in supporting sustainable and equitable participation in open scholarly infrastructure.

Deliverables

The Working Group will address the following community needs:

  • A shared understanding and practical guidance on how scholarly infrastructure can better account for regional diversity and on-the-ground realities, while maintaining global interoperability.
  • Surface patterns, document lived experiences, and identify principles or recommendations that can inform more inclusive infrastructure design, outreach, and collaboration.
