The Future of Research Communications and e-Scholarship

Proposals now invited to the FORCE2018 meeting on scholarly communication

Author: Jennifer McLennan

La, Jolla, CA – March 6, 2018 – Organizers of the FORCE2018 meeting, to be held in Montreal, Canada on October 11 & 12, 2018, are now inviting proposals for presentations on new or creative approaches to research communications and e-scholarship. FORCE2018 promises to be a different kind of meeting, where stakeholders come to the table for an open discussion, on an even playing field, to talk about changing the ways scholarly and scientific information is communicated, shared and used.

Researchers, publishers, librarians, computer scientists, informaticians, funders, educators, citizens, patients, and others attend the FORCE meeting with a view to supporting the realisation of promising new ideas and identifying new potential collaborators. FORCE2018 is hosted by the Ludmer Centre of McGill University.

The theme of FORCE2018 is engagement. Proposals should emphasise how presenters are engaging their local communities – worldwide – or how they will engage FORCE2018 participants. This might mean an interactive presentation, showcasing the tangible impact of your work, encouraging the FORCE2018 community to join your efforts, or another way in which others are engaged.

Proposals will be evaluated by the 2018 Program Committee, which includes:

  • Martin Fenner, Datacite – Germany
  • Miho Funamori, NII – Japan
  • Casey S. Greene, University of Pennsylvania – USA
  • Vincent Lariviere, University of Montreal – Canada
  • Jennifer Lin, Crossref – USA
  • Catriona MacCallum, Hindawi – UK
  • JB Poline, McGill University – Canada
  • Gimena del rio Riande, Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas – Argentina

Community input on the program continues to be welcome. To offer feedback, learn more about presentation scope and format and to submit a proposal, visit the meeting website at https://www.force11.org/join-us-for-force2018/.

The deadline for proposals to FORCE2018 is Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 11:59PM Pacific time.
